World Rainforest Day, also known as International Rainforest Day, is a day celebrated annually on June 22, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of rainforests and promoting their protection. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the ecological, economic and cultural value of rainforests and to encourage people and communities to act to preserve them.<\/p>\n

Why are rainforests important?<\/h2>\n

Rainforests are vital for many reasons. They cover only about 6% of the earth’s surface, but more than half of the world’s plant and animal species live in them. Rainforests also act as significant carbon sinks that help combat climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
