The blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is the world’s largest animal both today and throughout time. It can grow up to more than 30 meters long and weigh more than 170 tons. The blue whale is also one of the loudest animals, its song can be heard up to 1,600 kilometers away.<\/p>\n

The blue whale is an endangered species, and its number has decreased significantly as a result of whaling. Today, blue whales are protected by international agreements, such as the CITES agreement and the decisions of the IWC (International Whaling Commission).<\/p>\n
