Who is the president of Finland?

The president of Finland is Sauli Niinistö. He has served as the President of the Republic of Finland since 2012. Niinistö was first elected president in the 2012 presidential election, and was re-elected in the 2018 election. He is the 12th president in the history of Finland.

Sauli Niinistö’s background

Sauli Väinämö Niinistö was born on August 24, 1948 in Salo. He has a bachelor’s degree in law and has held many important positions during his career. Before his election as president, Niinistö worked, among other things:

  • As a Member of Parliament (1987–2003)
  • As Minister of Justice (1995–1996)
  • As Minister of Finance (1996–2003)
  • As Speaker of the Parliament (2007–2011)
