What is hydropower?

  • Social impact: Construction of large dams can lead to forced relocation of residents and loss of cultural heritage.

Hydropower is a significant source of energy in many countries, especially those with abundant water resources and altitude differences. For example, in Norway and Canada, hydropower covers a large part of the country’s electricity production. In Finland, hydropower is also an important part of the energy system, although its share is smaller compared to some other countries.
