What is global warming?

Global warming is a phenomenon in which the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere rises in the long term. This is mainly due to the increase of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere. These gases trap the sun’s radiation and prevent some of the heat from escaping back into space, resulting in a warming atmosphere. Global warming causes many harmful effects, such as extreme weather events, sea level rise and disruption of ecosystems.

What are the consequences of global warming?

  • Extreme weather events such as floods, droughts and storms may increase.
  • The sea level is rising, which threatens coastal areas and islands.
  • The habitats of animal and plant species can change rapidly, which can lead to species extinction.
