What is climate policy?

Climate policy is measures taken by the government and other stakeholders to curb climate change and mitigate its effects. Climate policy aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable development. The goal is to achieve a carbon-neutral society where greenhouse gas emissions are minimized and possible emissions are compensated for, for example, by planting forests or technological solutions.

Climate policy often includes various regulations and programs that encourage companies and individuals to reduce emissions. For example, in the emissions trading system, companies can buy and sell emission rights, which encourages them to reduce emissions efficiently and economically.

Climate policy is complex and requires cooperation between different actors. International climate agreements, such as the Paris Climate Agreement, are important instruments in the fight against climate change. In addition, local and national governments can set their own goals and measures to curb climate change.
