What is a natural disaster?

A natural disaster is a sudden and powerful natural phenomenon that causes extensive damage to people, animals and the environment. Natural disasters can be, for example, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods and forest fires. These events can cause great destruction and even loss of life.

Natural disasters can affect both developed and developing countries, but in developing countries their effects can be particularly devastating, as they often do not have sufficient resources to deal with and prevent emergencies. That is why it is important that countries cooperate and prepare for possible natural disasters.
