Is May Day off?

Vappu is the official flag day in Finland, but it is not an official holiday. For many Finns, however, May Day is a day off, as many companies give their employees time off on May Day. In addition, many schools and educational institutions take May Day off.

Vappu is a traditional spring holiday celebrated on May 1. That’s when people gather together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the history of the labor movement. May Day is traditionally associated with, among other things, drinking sima, eating donuts and blowing up balloons.

If you want to check the rules related to working on May Day and any days off, you should check the collective agreement or the instructions given by the employer.
