Location and political status of Pakistan

Pakistan is located in South Asia, and its neighbors are India, Afghanistan, Iran and China. Pakistan has a long coastline on the Arabian Sea. The capital of the country is Islamabad, and the largest city is Karachi. Pakistan is an independent country that got its independence from Britain in 1947.

EU enlargement and future prospects

The European Union has expanded several times during its history, but the expansion has focused on European countries. EU membership requires the fulfillment of certain political and economic criteria, known as the Copenhagen criteria. These criteria include respect for democracy, the rule of law and human rights, as well as a functioning market economy.

Although the EU is open to new members, Pakistan’s geographical location and political status make it an unlikely candidate for EU membership. EU enlargement is focused on European countries, and Pakistan joining the EU is not a realistic possibility at the moment.
