What is an environmental organization?

An environmental organization is an organization that aims to promote environmental protection and sustainable development. Environmental organizations can operate at the local, national or international level and their goal is usually to influence environmental policy, promote environmental awareness and take concrete measures to protect the environment.

Environmental organizations can focus, for example, on combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, waste management or water protection. They can also organize activities, campaigns and events that increase public awareness of environmental issues and encourage people to act for the environment.

Several different environmental organizations operate in Finland, such as WWF, Greenpeace and the Finnish Nature Conservation Association. These organizations do valuable work to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
